7 daily practices that transformed my emotional landscape

The Feeling Heart

Practical Advice and Spiritual Wisdom for Living Wholeheartedly

March 12, 2025 | Granada, Spain

Dear Reader,

It's been raining all week here in Granada, with unseasonably cold temperatures—my friend Joe told me it's actually warmer in London than here! Despite the gray skies, I've found myself drawn inward to a different kind of warmth—working on my music and planning the spring program for our new local Heart Space in Granada.

Three weeks ago, I made a decision that felt radical in today's hyper-connected world: I stepped away completely from my mobile phone. This wasn't a weekend digital detox—it was an intentional space-creating experiment. The profound shift in my inner landscape inspired me to write about seven heart-centered practices for inner peace that emerged from this experience. I'm excited to share them with you in this week's article.

What I'm Learning Now

I've been deeply immersed in Linda Tucker's extraordinary book, "Mystery of the White Lions" lately. Her conversations with Credo Mutwa (a renowned South African Sanusi and indigenous knowledge keeper) and how she developed the Academy for Lion Hearted Leadership has truly inspired me. If you're curious about her work, visit her foundation's website.

Heart Wisdom

"Peace of mind isn't achieved by changing your external circumstances – it comes from mastering your internal environment."

How many times have you told yourself, "I'll feel peaceful when this or that happens"? Each time you do that, you're postponing your peace and well-being. Instead, how about choosing peace right now, regardless of your external circumstances, by taking full responsibility for your internal environment?

This Week's Practice

One of the practices that has had the biggest impact on my inner peace has been "bookending" my days with heart-centered meditation. Here's what I do:

Right after I wake up, I place a hand over my heart, breathe deeply, and feel gratitude for the day ahead, imagining how I'd like the day to go... then, at night, as I tuck under the covers, I do the same, feeling gratitude for three highlights of the day. How about giving this simple practice a try?

That's it for this week! I hope you like the new, more streamlined format of this newsletter. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it – simply reply to this email to share your feedback.

Wishing you a peaceful and joyful week ahead.

From my heart to yours,

—Gabriel
