On February 17th, I received news that shattered my heart: my dear friend Muhsin Hendricks, the world's first openly gay Imam, had been murdered in Cape Town. As I sit with my grief, I find myself returning to our many conversations about finding joy in the face of rejection, discovering strength in solitude, and choosing love over fear.
In this week's article, I share a deeply personal tribute to a remarkable spiritual leader and friend, whose life—and death—offer profound teachings about authentic happiness. Through this story, you'll discover:
• Why true joy can never be found in external achievements
• How to transform isolation into sacred solitude
• The surprising connection between service and lasting happiness
• Five essential practices for cultivating unshakable inner peace
• What science reveals about authentic happiness and purpose
This isn't just another article about finding happiness—it's a powerful reminder that your greatest joy comes from living your truth and serving others, even when—especially when—that choice demands everything from you.
